POSITION SUMMARY:
The Tactical Buyer-Planner is re sponsible for assuring the continuous supply of assigned components to (a) Support production goals and objectives (b) Minimize cost of production, and (c) Achieve CMS's stated inventory reduction initiatives. . This position is further responsible for keeping the Manager, Production Control and production supervision advised and updated on production and inventory issues.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive increasing inventory turns by developing, implementing and managing innovative material replenishment processes, including, but not limited to Kanbans, vendor managed inventory and supplier consignments.
- Manage internal and external Kanban programs. Includes setting Kanban levels, trigger points, safety stock levels, and lead times according to standard Crane Co. methods.
- Effectively communicate forecasted requirements to external suppliers.
- Evaluate and act upon the material requirements plan (MRP) for assigned commodities. Generates and adjusts purchase orders and/or shop work orders to support production schedules. Effectively communicates areas of concern to appropriate departments, individuals and/or suppliers. Inputs, maintains, and adjusts records or transactions to ensure system validity.
- Develops and implements programs with suppliers and internal cross functional team members that address lead time reduction, order fill rate performance, quality performance, cost reduction, and technical improvements.
- Interfaces with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Strategic Sourcing, and Suppliers to resolve quality and/or delivery issues.
- Resolve shipping discrepancies, invoice errors and coordinate adjustments on open shipment orders as necessary.
- Maintains purchasing files, logs, and related records as needed.
- Consistent with Crane's Operational Excellence focus, participate in Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen events that will eliminate waste and result in significant benefits (Growth, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) throughout the Supply Chain.
- Drive continuous improvement in the supply base by communicating objective performance metrics, focused on lead time reduction, on-time delivery improvement, quality improvement, and cost reduction.
- Work to eliminate excess and obsolete parts, and rationalize similar parts.
- Maintain focus on continuous improvement by recommending innovative, cost efficient business solutions.
- Adhere to all Company policies, safeguard the company's interests and act in an ethical and legal manner as well as report all violations of Company policies and procedures to appropriate management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: BS/BA in business or technical field desired.
Experence
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar position.
- Direct experience implementing lean concepts (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen Leadership, 5S, etc). Lean/Six Sigma certification (black belt or green belt) is desired.
- Prior experience implementing a pull system/kanban approach to component flow.
- Experience with global suppliers desired.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving/decision making skills; ability to make timely, effective, fact based decisions. Includes a strong working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and scheduling software.
- Knowledge of supplier qualification processes and supplier performance metrics.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to perform and produce results in multifunctional teams in a dynamic work environment.
- Demonstrated ability in scheduling and continuous improvement programs.
- Broad knowledge of manufacturing, production, and inventory control functions.
- Proficient in the use of Word and Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working in a union environment, preferred.
LICENSES:
Certification in APICS and/or ISM is highly desired
